Banyan 2004 Viognier 'Madera'

Winemaker's Notes
This Viognier is a vineyard designate from the Wulf Vineyard off of Road 23 1/2 in Madera. Though the Central Valley may not be known for producing premium wines, Madera is establishing itself as the Viognier region of California. The warm weather and sandy soild there are similar to that of the Rhone Valley in France where Viognier is widely planted to produce some of France’s highest quality white wines. This wine is made from CCOF certified organically grown grapes.

Harvest was done in the wee hours of the morning anf the fruit was transported while it was still cool. Only free run juice was used for this wine to preserve the delicate fruit and varietal elegance.

Typically Viognier, the nose and flavor of this wine is layered in peaches, apricots, honey, lemons and jasmine, with medium weight and a crisp finish.

Recommendations
Serve chilled. Acid will be firmer at cooler temperatures, but the aromatics will be more pronounced when warmer. A versatile wine that can easily accompany Asian foods, fish dishes, and cream sauces. Also try with summer vegetables and fresh tropical fruits.
